Client: Early Care and Education Projects, Univ. of AR

Problem:
In Arkansas, recently licensed home-based childcare providers were obliged to achieve certification within six months to uphold their business licenses. Although a one-day, in-person workshop served this requirement, there arose a necessity to provide the course online, enhancing accessibility and extending its reach throughout the state.

Arkansas mandates that individuals operating a childcare center from their homes attain certification through Family Child Care Provider training.

Approach:
We collaborated with the Early Care and Education Projects unit to transform the training:
Curriculum Analysis: Assessed existing materials, including workbooks and instructor manuals, and attended the in-person program for alignment of learning objectives.
Student Analysis: Conducted phone interviews with former participants to gain insights.
Persona Development: Created two personas based on interview findings.
Collaboration: Collaborated with veteran instructors who had decades of experience teaching the course.

Content Enhancement: Developed an engaging asynchronous online course featuring skills demonstration videos, such as toy-making and music sing-alongs.
Assessment: Incorporated "Progress Checks" to gauge engagement and retention.
Deployment: Launched the online course on Blackboard LMS. (screenshots not available)
Evaluation: Conducted follow-up surveys at 3, 6, and 12 months to gather feedback and incorporate feedback from instructors and students.
Patty and Debbie, long-time instructors of the Family Child Care Provider classroom/workshop course, have been imparting their expertise to learners for many years.

Our collaboration involved capturing dynamic video segments, preserving their creative skills and live course demonstrations, and ensuring that the essence of their teaching remained intact in the online format.
.
Conclusion:
The Family Child Care Provider online course received a positive reception, generating enthusiasm among instructors for addressing the need for expanded outreach. It effectively fulfilled state training requirements and was widely embraced by professional caregivers across the state, where it is still serving as a valuable tool to meet accreditation standards.
